#libya Foreigners driven to attain legal work permits

The Ministry of Labour has urged foreign workers in Libya to complete their relevant procedures to maintain legal permits within two months.
Many workers enter Libya on a holiday visa, overstay their visit and continue working. It is now required to hold a valid health certificate to work in Libya.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Labour claims they do not distribute permits to companies and employment recruitment agencies, who work with foreign countries, however, there are companies in Libya who are illegally employing foreign workers.
In February, the Ministry halted foreign recruitment until there is a sufficient system in place delivering fair working conditions for those entering the country, with the exception of companies operating under the State aimed at developing Libya’s infrastructure. Criticism was raised over the slackness of checking work permits of workers from foreign countries.
