Libya destruction result of Obama policy: US analyst &

PRESS TV

An American political commentator believes that the “regime change policy” of US President Barack Obama in 2011 resulted in the destruction of Libya.
“The result of the policy of President Obama” is that “we destroyed Libya in 2011 and the country has never recovered,” Lawrence Freeman, an editor of Executive Intelligence Review, told Press TV on Sunday.
He also said that North African people “are suffering as a result of this regime change policy by president Obama” and US National Security Adviser Susan Rice.
Libya has been witnessing one of its worst spasms of violence since the overthrow of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
Recent fighting between armed groups has prompted almost all foreign diplomats and thousands of residents to flee Tripoli.
Rival militiamen, who refuse to lay down arms, are fighting for total rule over the North African country, and the army has been unable to curb the widespread lawlessness.
US military forces have been commissioned since 2013 to covertly establish and train local “counter-terrorism” units in Libya, Mauritania, Niger and Mali as part of Washington’s efforts to widen its war against what it calls al-Qaeda-linked militants in Africa, the New York Times reported on May 27, citing US officials without identifying them by name.
The secretive military training program has been financed in part with millions of dollars in classified Pentagon spending, according to the newspaper, and involves instructing and equipping “handpicked” commandos in the four African countries, with the hope that the teams will eventually acquire the capability to take on militants such as the Nigeria-based Boko Haram.
