Thirty more Filipino workers from conflict-torn Libya are scheduled to return to the Philippines in two batches this Monday, while 329 more are waiting for their flight home, Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said.

The 30 workers are the second group to return to Manila in two weeks since the Philippine government raised crisis alert level 3 all over Libya on May 29 due to the ongoing civil strife.

Jose said the first batch of 18 are due to arrive at 4:35 p.m. on board flight EK332 while the second group of 12 are due in Manila at 10:10 p.m. via EK334.

All of them are employees of Doosan Industries and Construction and the Tripoli Carpet Factory, Jose said.

Upon their return, the total number of Filipinos that were sent home from Libya will reach 89 as more repatriations are expected in the coming days.

Jose said the number of Filipinos wanting to leave Libya has began to increase.

As of Monday, he said, 329 Filipinos have registered for repatriation and are waiting to be flown to Manila.

Alert level 3 calls for voluntary repatriation and prohibition of deployment of new workers to the troubled North African state.

However, only those with existing contracts to Libya can return to their employers.

Before the repatriations began, there were more than 13,000 Filipino workers in Libya, mostly employed in the construction and healthcare sectors.

Repatriations are voluntary, but Jose called on Filipinos there to go home to avoid being caught in conflict.
