The Libyan authorities have assured that 21 crew members of MT Morning Glory, including six Pakistanis, will be released from the Tripoli Detention Centre on Sunday morning, said civil rights activist Ansar Burney on Saturday.

The six Pakistani crew members are Mirza Noman Baig, Captain Ghufran Marghoob Ahmed, chief officer Syed Muhammad Mehdi Shamsi, second officer Syed Asif Hassan, third officer Naik Zada and crew member Muhammad.

The crew of MT Morning Glory comprised six Pakistani, six Indian, three Sri Lankan, two Syrian, two Sudanese and two Eritrean nationals, said Burney.

“After being rescued by American forces from the Cyprian sea the MT Morning Glory reached Libya where the crew was taken into custody pending investigation,” he said. “But all 21 have now been cleared by the Libyan court and are on way to their respective countries.” Burney thanked the efforts of President Mamnoon Hussain, ministry of foreign affairs, the Pakistani ambassador in Libya Lt Gen (retd) Javaid Zia, US President Barrack Obama, Pentagon, the NATO’s secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen and the US embassies in Islamabad and Tripoli.
