Spain champions FC Barcelona have signed a partnership agreement with Libyan club Al Ahly, meant to train young players and provide exposure to the team.
Al Ahly are Libya’s second most successful club after Al Ittihad Tripoli and plan to put in place development strategies ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in the country.
The deal consists of sending a group of young players from Ahly to spend one month each year at Barcelona’s youth academy La Masia.
Ahly’s president Sisi Buown also said regular friendly matches between his team and Barca would be organised.
Football ties between the North African country and Spain have perked up since the employment last September of Spaniard manager Javier Clemente to head the national team.
