Tripoli, 12 September 2013:
A young man was murdered on Tuesday night in Tripoli’s Triq Al-Sikka (Railway Road) in what is believed to be a drugs-related crime. According to a spokesman from Central Police Station, the man, named as Feisel and said to be a drugs dealer, had been driving along the road when a car crossed in front and forced him to stop. The driver got out of the car and shot him twice in the head before driving off.
The police believe the murder was in revenge for the killing earlier this year of another drugs dealer. The two had been partners but had then fallen out over a deal. Despite then reaching a financial agreement, both remained suspicious and hostile to each other.
According to the police, some six months ago, Faisel drove with four associates to the partner’s house in the University district. The partner was out but they waited. When he arrived, the four associates reportedly grabbed him and dragged him to the car which eyewitnesses said had tinted windows. He was then shot four times in the chest by Feisel, the police claim, dying instantly. Neighbours reportedly said that before leaving the scene he and his associates claimed they were from an anti-crime squad.
Faisel then fled to Tunisia, the police say, where he remained until recently, hoping that in the intervening period people would have forgotten about the killing. They say that back in Tripoli he began to selling drugs from his own home as before. However, his former partner’s brother heard of his return and began following him to note his movements. It was he, the police claim, who shot him on Tuesday.
A man was reported to have been arrested in Tajoura last night in connection with the killing.
