Sources have reported an armed militia stormed the runway at
Tripoli International Airport preventing an aircraft from taking off on
Sunday night.
The group are responsible for security at the airport have closed the premises, with no signs or information as to when it will reopen.
A plane travelling to Benghazi and another to Alexandria, both carrying crew and passengers, were halted from taking off last night.
Afriqiyah Airways said one of it’s planes landed at Mitiga International Airport rather than Tripoli International Airport for the safety of those on board.
Clear motives of the armed group remain unknown.
