207 immigrants detained by Libyan coastguard patrol

A wooden boat carrying 207 immigrants was discovered the by Libyan coastguard patrol while they attempted to cross the Mediterranean into Europe.
Navy Chief of Staff Ayoub Kasim told the Libyan news agency LANA, 29 women and children were among those detained. Two Tunisians were on board along with a number of Somalis and Eritreans, all looking to make it across the water in search of a better life.
He added that the detainees were handed over to the correct department when arriving at Khoms port in Libya, and are likely to be deported to their home countries.
During the month of August, UNHCR recorded the irregular departure of 27 boats from Libya to Italy, with a total of 3,044 persons on board from Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea.
