#Sirte’s banks close doors due to robberies #libya

Banks in the city of Sirte have closed doors, in a protest against the rising insecurity and recurring armed robberies, the Local Council claimed.
“The commercial banks operating in the city of Sirte will on Sunday stop their activities in a move to draw the authorities’ attention to the poor security conditions for the financial institutions,” the Council said.
On July 2nd, gunmen seized LD 94,000 from Gumhouria Bank in Sirte, followed by over LD 400,000 being stolen from the North-African Bank on July 10th.
The decision was formed after a meeting between the head of the banks and Sirte’s Local Council.
