The first and second series of the LD 20 notes will remain valid
currency until December, after the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) extended
the withdrawal period.
The notes, which show Qaddafi surrounded by a group of African Union leaders at the 1999 Sirte summit for the Declaration of the African Union, will now be accepted at CBL branches until 30 December.
CBL had previously said that there would be a phased withdrawal of the notes from May and that commercial banks would not take the old notes after 30 June. That deadline has now been extended to the end of the year.
CBL has also urged anyone who has a large number of notes from the first and second series to take these into banks and replace the old money with the new.
The withdrawal is part of a changeover to the new post-revolution notes. The new orange LD 20 notes, which are smaller than the old ones, first started appearing in circulation in April.
