#Chinese cars come to #Libya

Chinese car manufacturer Geely last week unveiled its latest model – the Geely Emgrand – to over 100 people gathered at Tripoli’s Corinthia hotel.
The Geely Emgrand is billed as “a reliable, safe and affordable car,” made in China to strict European standards.
The new vehicle comes in several models with prices ranging from LD 8,700 to LD 17,000. The Libyan distributor Al Bustan Al Zahaby,  brings in both motor vehicles and spare parts. It hopes the imports of the Geely Emgrand will help create 120 new jobs and at least 200 further indirect jobs in sales, engineering and logistics, by 2014.
Achieving a high level of customer satisfaction is also one of Al Bustan Al Zahaby’s aims, managing director Ahmed Baz told the Libya Herald.
Geely is setting itself the goal of becoming a serious competitor to Toyota, Hyundai and Mitsubuishi in the Libyan market. Indeed, having acquired Swedish car maker Volvo in 2012, Geely is looking to become a serious player in the world car industry.
Geely MENA region representative Abdulhakim Amer pointed to the company’s recent success in Europe. Geely designed the new London taxi and, in 2012, was one of the sponsors of the Olympic Games in the UK. He added that the Geely Emgrand C7 is the only Chinese car that has passed all tests and been awarded four stars in European safety tests.
Amer said he thought the Geely Emgrand would suit Libyan tastes. “We also provide a three-year warranty for our customers and this is an assurance that our product is of good quality and appropriate for Libyan customers,” he added.
