Talk today on shared #Italian and #Libyan history

tripoli, 15 May 2013:
The rich cultural heritage shared by Italy and Libya will be discussed in a talk today by Professor Franco Salvatori, President of the Italian Geographical Society.
His lecture, entitled ‘The Italian Geographical Society’s Archives for Libya: a Common Heritage,’ will focus on the Libyan items held in the Society’s archives in Rome.
“In Italy, we have a collection of many original maps and documents relating to Libya,” Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tripoli, Rubens Piovano, told the Libya Herald. “We are also sure Libya has documents we don’t have,” he said, “and this cultural heritage belongs to everyone.”
The Institute is hoping to pursue a goal of sharing copies of documents, to complete Libya and Italy’s respective archives. “This is a first step towards making a future partnership,” Piovano said.
The talk is one of a series of Wednesday lectures organised by the Centre for Libya Archives and Historical Studies. Today’s talk has been organised with the Italian Cultural Institute.
The lecture, which will be in Italian with Arabic translation, starts at 5 pm. It will be followed by a question and answer session with Professor Salvatori.
The event is being held at the Centre for Libyan Archives and Historical Studies on Sidi Muneider Street in Tripoli.
