New #US_ambassador awaits final approval #libya

The nomination of Deborah K. Jones as the next US ambassador to Libya was yesterday approved by the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
The whole US Senate still has to approve the nomination before the ambassador takes up her post, a spokesman for the US embassy told the Libya Herald today. She has already been approved by the Libyan government.
Jones was nominated by US President Barak Obama earlier this year. She will be the first US ambassador to Libya since the assassination of the former US ambassador, Chris Stevens, and three other diplomatic staff, on 11 September 2012. The embassy is currently being run by Chargés d’Affaires William Roebuck.
