Ali Zeidan’s government has been forced into issuing a press statement this morning denying the resignations of any of its Ministers.
Reports that four key ministers in the government had resigned have been circulating on the internet and on some media outlets.
The Derna-based news agency Irassa, for example, had announced yesterday evening that the Prime Minister had confirmed to a source that four ministers had resigned.
It later named them as Interior Minister Ashour Shuwail, Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdulaziz, Economy Minister Mustafa Abofunas and Justice Minister Salah Marghani.
However, Justice Minister Salah Marghani told the Libya Herald. “I’m still in office, I’ve not resigned.”
“It’s not true” said the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Badraddin Qaluishi.
These are not the first rumours of ministerial resignations. A week ago, the Prime Minister had to deny another report that Ashour Shuwail had resigned, this time over the French embassy bombing.
There have also been calls for Chief of Staff Yousef Mangoush to resign, and the GNC is to discuss his position in this morning’s session.
In the same press release the government also denied reports of any foreign troops within Libya’s territory on the southern border.
The government also called on the media to be more accurate in its reporting of news.
