Libyan authorities received the second installment of
military boats from the Netherlands on Thursday, increasing the coast
guards presence.
The force aim to protect Libyan territorial waters by tracking the movements of suspicious vessels, hoping to reduce illegal immigrants crossing from Africa to Europe. Libya’s geographical positioning means the country has become a hub for people willing to risk the Mediterranean crossing.
A ceremony was held to mark the delivery of the four boats from the Netherlands by the Libyan Navy.
The base in Benghazi was the first to receive four boats in January.
