A number of officers, NCOs and soldiers belonging to a
battalion in the southern city of Sabha, have been arrested for planning
a military coup in line with the former Gaddafi regime.
The Khamis Brigade, or 32nd Reinforced Brigade of the Armed People as they were formally known, were found with military uniforms and armed with weaponry painted green preparing to go fourth with a coup against Libya’s current government.
The group were planning to seize Sabha in an attempt to restore the former regime, under orders that are believed to have been received from Tripoli, although no further information has been released. The group apparently originate from the southwestern town of Ubari.
