#Libya to cooperate with #Italy on military

There are a number of contracts that are in the process of being reactivated between Libya and Italy in the near future that focus on cooperation in various fields, Libyan minister confirms.

Libya’s Minister of Defence Mohamed al-Barghathi held Wednesday talks with the Italian Defence Minister Giampaolo Di Paola during which both officials discussed bilateral military and security cooperation and the ways to further strengthen them,Tripoli Post reported.
According to the report, Minister Di Paola handed over to Libya 20 Italian PUMA armoured vehicles to Libya in a ceremony at Tripoli Naval Base as part of the support provided by Italy to Libya, saying “we are prepared to help the new government by providing vehicles, training and a border control system”.
“Libya is strategically important to Italy. We want the country to be stable and secure. We were among the first to come here immediately after the liberation to reaffirm our friendly ties. There are several agreements for cooperation projects that have already been signed, such as the one on integrated surveillance of Libyan borders,” the Italian Minster said as quoted by Ansamed.
Al-Barghathi said Libya sent a number of students and soldiers to study and be trained in the field of security
