TRIPOLI — The Libyan embassy in the Yemeni capital,
Sana’a, has reached agreement with the Ministry of Expatriate Affairs
there to enable significant numbers of Yemenis to work in Libya.
According to the Libyan news agency LANA, the Yemeni Expatriate Affairs Minister, Mujahid Al-Quhali, and the Libyan Ambassador in Sana’a, Ramadan Bazama, agreed to set up a joint committee to create the necessary systems to regulate the supply and delivery of Yemeni labor to Libya. This is expected to result, among others things, in the opening of an Yemeni expatriates’ organization in Libya and the appointment of a Libyan labor attaché in Sana’a.
Yemen, the poorest state in the Arab World but with a population of 27 million, is a major workforce supplier to several Arab states, especially in the Arabian peninsula. It is mainly unskilled labor, which, in Libya’s case, means they will be competing with workers from Egypt. — Libya Herald
