Some 30,000 kilograms of drugs were found on the boat
Tripoli, 24 February 2013:
The Libyan coastguard has seized some 30,000 kilograms of drugs, on a boat off the Libyan coast.
A spokesman from the Navy, Ayub Gacem, said that the Libyan-flagged boat, Bab Bahr, was boarded by the authorities some 60 kilometres northeast of the Bouri oil field, according to Libyan news agency LANA.
Five people were arrested on board, a Libyan, an Egyptian, a Tunisian and two Moroccans.
A source told the Libya Herald that the bust was the result of a ten-day investigation into a drug-smuggling gang, and that the boat was carrying 25 tonnes of hashish.
