#Libya rejects attack on #Mali, calling for settlement through dialogue

Libyan authorities will not allow the country to be used as a launch pad for attacks, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan said on Saturday.
“We reject the attacks on Mali, and Libya’s position was clear, so we asked to give an opportunity for dialogue,” Zeidan said.
The PM denied media reports of the southwestern Alwaigh military base, close to Libya’s border with Niger, had been used “to launch attacks on neighboring countries”. He added that the area is under surveillance operations and peace-keeping patrols.
He added that Libya condemned the situation at Amenas gas facility in Algeria. The siege has escalated into one of the biggest international hostage crises in decades, resulting in 23 deaths and pushes Saharan militancy to the top of the global agenda.
The Algeria crisis marks a serious increase of unrest in north Africa. PM Zeidan stressed the importance of strengthening border control, adding that leaders of Libya, Algeria and Tunisia have agreed to enhance security along their borders to fight organized crimes during a trilateral security summit held last week in Libyan southwestern town Ghadames.
The PM urged the nation to cooperate with the military, whilst watching out for those in the illegal arms and drugs trade. The activity has infested Libyan borders without sufficient government control and is responsible for the arming of various sub-Saharan Islamist groups
