French pilot killed as air strikes hit Mali Islamists
French forces carried out a fresh wave of air strikes against Islamist rebels in Mali today as it emerged one of its pilots had been killed in the operation.
The strikes are an attempt to help the country’s beleaguered armed forces turn back an advance by Islamist rebels, as part of an international mission that Britain is expected to join.
France has also sent troops to protect Bamako, the capital, in an operation involving several hundred soldiers, said Jean-Yves Le Drain, the French Defence Minister
