Prime Minister Ali Zeidan left Egypt with his delegation
after holding talks with his counterpart, Hazem el-Beblawi, holding a
press conference with the Defence Minister on Friday evening in Tripoli.
Discussions on bilateral cooperation between the neighbouring countries took place to strength economic relations. Zeidan invited Egyptian construction companies into Libya to create job opportunities and assist with the rebuilding of the country.
“Libya’s large investments in Egypt are estimated at billion and must be pursued and maintained. There is real estate, tourism…students in universities. There is a solid ground to build, develop, strengthen and maintain relations with Egypt,” Zeidan said in the press conference.
The PM also met with Defence Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi offering full cooperation with border security.
Libya’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Abdul Aziz accompanied Zeidan on the Egyptian visit, however, his trip was stained after receiving accusations from the Justice & Construction Party over corruption within his Ministry.
Also present at Friday’s press conference, Abdul Aziz told those who question his performance should deal with it through Libya’s legal system, or refer to the General National Congress in confidence rather than stirring false accusations.
Zeidan also responded to resentment shown by the Justice & Construction party, Libya’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, towards his visit to Egypt. In his defence, the Prime Minister said he went as a representative of Libya and the Libyan people, not as an affiliate for any political party or group.
The Justice & Construction part continue to intensify their attack on Zeidan’s government who continue to harshly criticise their recent performance.
