Johannesburg: Libya's prosecutor general has announced that late
dictator Muammar Gaddafi's son and his spy chief's trial will start on
September 19 in the capital on alleged war crimes and crimes against
humanity.
Abdel-Qader Radwan said that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi and former intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senoussi have been charged with murder during Libya's 2011 civil war, News24 reports.
Gaddafi was captured in 2011 by the Zintan militia while trying to cross into Niger just a month after his father Colonel Gaddafi was captured and killed.
Earlier, International Criminal Court (ICC) judges had ruled that Libyan government was not capable of giving a fair trial to Seif al-Islam and had asked authorities to hand him over to The Hague.
However, the Libyan Government has been struggling to exert its influence over large parts of the country and has not been able to transfer him without the permission of Zintan's militia leaders.
