The
Italian Culture Institute, in partnership with the European Union and
1Libya, has announced the First edition of the 'Libya Movie Awards', a
competition for short films by talented young Libyan film makers.
The Award aims at stimulating the creation of a Libyan movie industry and building a community of film makers. In addition to helping the discovery of new talents, this important event will provide a venue for conveying ideas on relevant social issues in Libya after the revolution.
Prizes for the winners consist of valuable professional tools to increase opportunities for the career.
A special prize is reserved for the professional moviemakers section: a ticket to attend the Festival of Cannes for the winner and his/her short movie included in the professional catalogue of the festival.
The works submitted will be reviewed and selected by an international Jury made up of Libyan directors and film critics along with European movie makers and directors.
During the three-day programme the European guests will offer workshops and lectures about movie and documentary making in the mornings, while in the afternoon prize-winner short films will be shown.
Those interested are being invited by the organisers to participate with a production of theirs, preferably a new one, created for the occasion.
A set of rules and regulations have been introduced and participants need abide by them to be able to present their material:
They include, that:
- The participants must be Libyan nationals and preferably active since the Revolution (but not limited to)
- For movies to be accepted they must be in DVD
- The duration of the must be between 1 and 10 minutes long.
- Movies must belong to one of the following categories:
1. Culture
2. Human rights.
3. Movie promo (Trailers).
4. Creative short movie (Fiction, Horror, Comedy , Drama )
5. Music Videos.
6. Animation.
7. Awareness Video.
Participants need submit theirwork by not later than April 20, 2013 (deadline).
Movies can be sent using dropbox or using the mail libyaawards@gmail.com or sent by regular mail to: Istituto Italiano di Cultura, P.O.Box 12475 Tripoli
Alternatively, movies can be delivered to the orgnisisers' premises in Nofliin - Shara Mostafa Bazama (Ahmad ar-RAfiq Al-Mehdawi).
