Libyan Interior Minister Ashour Shuail has launched a
campaign to expel armed groups occupying more than 500 private or
Government properties.
The Minister said: “The campaign planned by the Libyan government intends to sweep about 540 Government building, including homes and farms occupied Tripoli,” which started Saturday evening.
“A mixed force of the army and police are equipped with all kinds of weaponry for this purpose” and they have not ruled out the possibility of receiving support from helicopters.
Shuail said at a joint news conference with the Prime Minister to Zeidan, “this campaign will gradually extend to all cities, particularly Benghazi.”
Zidane said that he “was releasing people who have been illegally detained and seized quantities of alcohol and other prohibited products during the first Saturday night.”
The Prime Minister will “continue this campaign”, warning that “the Government will not hesitate to use force against those who resisted or tried to intercept the operation.”
