Libyan security forces found the
bodies of seven Egyptians on Monday afternoon in the suburbs of a
Benghazi neighborhood, the Libyan official news agency
reported.
Spokesperson for the Benghazi Joint
Security Room, Ibrahim Sharaa told Xinhua that "Security
authorities found the seven bodies lying on the ground 30 km west
of Benghazi in the Jallouta area with a number gunshot wounds on
the bodies."
Sharaa said that the bodies carried
identifications with mostly Coptic names. However, he could not
confirm if "the killings came about for a religious reasons,"
stressing that "investigations have begun in order to solve this
heinous crime whatever the reason or motive behind it."
He added that after they were
discovered, the bodies were transported to the Benghazi medical
center for further examinations.
The spokesperson for the medical
center told Xinhua that the seven were abducted, without giving
further details.
Libya has been wracked with
political violence and instability since the end of the civil war
in 2011, which saw many armed militia groups formed in the country.
Cases of assassinations targeting politicians and security
officials, who have tried to crack down on the militias, have
increased since then, but many civilians and noncombatants often
