The former leader of the self-styled Libyan Revolutionaries Operations Room, whose arrest by Egyptian authorities had led to the abduction of five Egyptian embassy staffers in Tripoli, returned home late Monday after his release.
Shabaan Hediya was welcomed at Tripoli airport by a number of interim parliament members and scores of Libyan citizens.
Hediya was arrested on Friday in an area between Egypt's northwestern provinces of Matrouh and Alexandria on suspicions of links to militant groups.
The arrest was followed by the abduction of five Egyptian embassy personnel and an Egyptian national in the Libyan capital.
On Sunday, Hediya told a private Libyan television channel that he had been released by Egyptian authorities, adding that his arrest was a "misunderstanding."
