A Libyan security official says gunmen have stolen over $50 million after attacking a van belonging to the country's Central Bank on a road along the Mediterranean coast.
The official says the van, which had no guards accompanying it, was ambushed near the city of Sirte late Monday. The money was a mix of foreign currency and Libyan dinars. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media.
In the eastern city of Benghazi, attackers opened fire on a five-men sit-in, killing two and wounding three.
The five were protesting the 2011 assassination of former army chief Abdel-Fatah Younis.
Younis was Moammar Gadhafi's interior minister before defecting to the rebel side to help command the uprising against Libya's longtime ruler.
