The daily star_BEIRUT: A committee following up on the disappearance of prominent Shiite leader Imam Musa Sadr rejected remarks made by the former chairman of Libya’s National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdel-Jalil.
In an interview with the daily newspaper Al-Mustaqbal published Sunday, Abdel-Jalil accused the committee of having no desire to know the fate of Sadr.
He said the committee was “negligent and uncooperative with the Libyan investigation team to an extent that gave the impression that they don’t want to know the fate of the imam and want the situation to remain as it is.”
Sadr, the founder of Amal Movement, now headed by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, went missing during a visit to Libya on Aug. 31, 1978, along with his two companions, Sheikh Mohammad Yacoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine.
The committee said in a statement, “the Lebanese side has always complained about unjustified delaying of this issue by Libyan officials.”
The committee asked Libyan officials to reorganize cooperation with the Lebanese side to prove all the facts and put to rest lies and rumors.
