Head of Libya’s General National Congress Energy Committee
has admitted he paid 2.5 million Libyan dinars to oil security personnel
al-Jadran without consulting the conference.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Naji Mukhtar said the amounted granted to Jadran was his own money after the GNC did not pay out. He sees the $2 million money given to the oil hijackers as working in public interest, hoping the payout would allow oil production to restart in the country.
He fully admitted not consulting the Prime Minister, nor any other government officials. However, as the oil security were protesting about financial problems, he believed giving them what they wanted would work in the best interest of Libya.
