Gharyan revolutionaries handed over the Khalifa Al Tekbai
camp to the National Army on Monday, in a ceremony attended by newly
elected President of Congress, Nuri Ali Abu Sahmain.
The revolutionaries will remain inside the camp and join the national army, increasing the government forces presence in the area. An agreement to turn the Khalifa Al Tekbai camp into an army base was made when the unit’s commander demanded every soldier must be investigated under the Political Isolation Law, dismissing them if they had any former ties to the Gaddafi regime.
In a speech, Abu Sahmain expressed his gratitude for the cooperation shown by the revolutionaries, and said they were “examples” for other rebels across Libya who still have a stronghold in certain areas.
He thanked their quick response to join the Libyan National Army and their support to promote safety and stability inside Libya.
