Tripoli, 29 July 2013:
Prime Minister Ali Zeidan said that those responsible for the spate of violence in Libya recently were “devoid of any humanity, religion or principles”, and that they were “terrorizing the Libyan people and nation”.
Speaking at today’s press conference, the third press conference within a few days, Zeidan said that the aim of those instigating violence in Libya, “whoever they were” was “the February 17th project”.
Zeidan was reacting to the spate of violence that had hit both Tripoli and Benghazi recently, including an attempted mortar attack on the Corinthia, multiple assassinations and bombings.
Moreover, he added that targeting Benghazi was tantamount to targeting the Revolution itself as they hoped to show that hitting the source of the Revolution – the square outside the court house – they were hitting the revolution.
Zeidan called upon the public to be wise and strong in their reaction to acts of intimidation.
The Prime Minister further revealed that he had dispatched his Minister of Justice and the Deputy Health Minister to Benghazi last night at midnight to review the situation.
They had visited hospitals and the Minister of Justice visited the site of the explosion, met with the Joint Security Room and presented him with a report on the situation.
The Prime Minister spoke for one hour but refused to take questions at the end.
