Abdul Wahed Abugila, Chargé d’affaires (head of the
diplomatic mission), Embassy of Libya asked the business community to
step forward to invest in various profitable construction projects
underway in Libya.
He was addressing the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Saturday, where he invited Pakistani investors to explore investment opportunities in construction and infrastructure development including roads, bridges, buildings and other ongoing project as “Libya preferred Pakistani investors compared to other countries”.
Libya was also interested in Pakistan’s cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture and other potential areas. Abugila assured that he will request his government to consider giving land on lease to investors from Pakistan particularly to help improve agricultural productivity in Libya.
Libya also gave preference to Pakistani labour as they played a crucial role in Libya’s economic development. Embassy of Libya was issuing 150-200 visas daily to Pakistanis as there was enough scope for labours in Libya.
The head of the Libyan diplomatic mission to Pakistan stressed the need for frequent exchanges of trade delegations, increased cooperation between the trade bodies of both countries and constitution of the Pakistan-Libya Business Council to explore new areas of mutual cooperation and flip to a new chapter of good relations between the two countries.
Speaking at the occasion, ICCI President Zafar Bakhtawari said that Pakistan and Libya enjoyed good historical relations; however, there was a need to transform the diplomatic relations into more meaningful ties by boosting trade, commerce and economic interactions.
The ICCI president said that since Pakistan had an expertise in the field of agriculture, being an agro-based economy, hence Libyans should seriously consider giving land on lease to Pakistani agriculturalists so that they could contribute in developing the agriculture sector of Libya and boost yield.
ICCI will soon start initiatives to activate the Pakistan-Libya Business Council, he added.
