#libya Up to 200 visas a day issued to #Pakistani workers

Tripoli, 11 March 2013:
Libya is giving preference to Pakistani firms and workers, the chargé d’affaires at the Libyan embassy in Pakistan, Abdul Wahed Abugila, has said.
The embassy there is issuing between 150 and 200 visas every day to Pakistani workers headed for Libya, Abugila told the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
Abugila also invited local businessmen to consider investing in construction and infrastructure projects in Libya, saying it: “Preferred Pakistani investors compared to other countries,” according to Pakistani newspaper the Express Tribune.
President of the ICCI, Zafar Bakhtawari, said that the good diplomatic relations the two countries had long enjoyed now needed to be transformed into mutual cooperation in areas of trade and commerce.
Bakhtawari said that Pakistan’s agricultural expertise could help develop the sector in Libya, suggesting that land could be leased to Pakistani agriculturists to boost productivity. Abugila, who is the current head of Libya’s diplomatic mission in Pakistan, said that he would put this request to the government.
