In a report by Malta Today, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan
suggested Malta was interested in purchasing petrol, saying that “Libya
was prepared to provide Malta with the needed amount of petrol”.
Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat remained general whilst talking on the matter. “Oil exploration is on our minds but first we must reach an agreement over the purchasing of oil,” he said.
Muscat added, “An agreement should be reached between neighbouring countries and common sense should prevail. At the moment that is all I have to say”, when talking about oil exploration.
Zeidan and Muscat also discussed illegal immigration, which has become a growing issue for both countries. Muscat acknowledged neither country can conquer the issue alone.
Muscat said discussions included issuing of entry visas, while both governments aim to ease travel between the Mediterranean neighbours, expressing his wish to see more Libyans, “families and businessmen alike to come to Malta for work and pleasure”.
The delegation consisted of Maltese Foreign Minister George Vella, National Security Minister Manuel Mallia, Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi and Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella.
The Maltese PM and his delegation were welcomed at the airport by PM Ali Zeidan and Col Ali Faraj Alrabti.
