Chairman of Cairo’s Criminal Court Mustafa Hassan Abdullah
has prevented any filming to take place during the trial of Gaddafi
loyalist, Ahmed Gaddaf al-Dam.
The former coordinator of Egpytian-Libyan relations is being charged with attempted murder, resisting authorities and possessing a firearm without a licence.
The court’s security directed all photographers and television cameramen to remain outside the hall due to a decision made by Judge Abdullah.
The trial is being conducted under intense security measures due to the presence of Gaddaf al-Dam’s supporters. Police have restricted their seating to avoid any speaking with the accused, and to swerve a chaotic courtroom.
He is wanted in Libya for alleged counterfeiting, forgery, fraud and money laundering and is one of several high-profile Libyan figures residing in Egypt who have been pursued by Libyan authorities and the international police body Interpol since the end of the war.
