The families of Libyan prisoners detained in Qanatir prison,
Egypt, protested against their detainment on Sunday morning, some of
which are serving sentences ranging from 10 to 25 years.
The protesters who took a stand outside the Egyptian consulate in Benghazi, are looking to get the inmates transferred to Libyan prisons, due to their improvement. They are looking for support from the Consul to make the transfer possible. Just recently, prisoners in Qanatir went on hunger strike due to the poor conditions they are exposed to inside.
One protester said: ” We look forward to the cooperation from the Libyan authorities. We want to put an end to the suffering of Libyan prisoners in Egypt, and to also support their families who have endured significant financial burdens, due to travelling.”
