Libyan coast guard in the eastern city of Tubruk Tuesday apprehended two
Egyptian boats in national waters that were smuggling a large number of
sheep to Libya. The origin of the sheep was unknown.
In the operation the coast guard used newly acquired interceptor boats from Europe which were much needed to fight drug traffickers and smuggling.
Colonel Ayub Kasem told the Libyan news agency, LANA that the two illegal boats tried to escape but the coast guard fired warning shots in the air which led the boats to obey orders.
According to the same source, this boat is one of the newly acquired interceptor boats by the Libyan navy recently. Four similar interceptor boats will be handed to the navy in western Libya to be used for fighting illegal immigration.
