A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior has confirmed their
stance on the detention of perpetrators when first arrested by the
police.
Lietenant Magdi said the customary law was to detain a person for 48 hours, and the detention can only be extended under certain circumstances. Any prisons not following those rules are not part of the State and will be stopped.
The number of prisoners being held illegally in Libya has raised alarm bells, causing the government to detach themselves of any involved with such activity. In response, a nationwide crackdown is underway.
