Tripoli, Libya - Determined to crack down on human traffickers and
counterfeiters operating across its borders with neighboring countries
in the West and the South West, the Libyan Air Force is carrying out
surveillance with flights over the areas, military spokesman, Ali
al-Cheikhi told a news conference Thursday.
According to Al-Cheikhi, the surveillance flights are also aimed at addressing illegal immigration.
The disclosure comes in the wake of the publication of a report by UN security experts that there has been a rise in arms trafficking between Libya and its neighboring countries.
But Al-Cheikhi described the report as an exaggerated account of what is really going on in the country, adding that “the weapons found in neighbouring countries were taken there by African mercenaries who had been recruited by the late Mouammar Kaddafi to fight the Libyan revolution which finally toppled the "dictator".
