The 7th Weddex exhibition, organised by Saker Expo, has opened at the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli.
A total of 26 businesses are taking part, both local and international, exhibiting wedding dresses, cosmetics, invitation cards, cakes, catering, wedding dress accessories, abayas/bridal capes, sweet dishes, Arabic incense, perfume, wedding halls/decor and photography.
As might be expected, mainly women and brides-to-be in their 20s visited the Weddex stalls in Corinthia’s Lebdah ballroom. Dozens of eager women gathered around a particular cosmetic company, Inglot, to try out its latest products.
Sola cosmetics, an British company, which has been working in Libya for three years, had an attractive stall advertising its European brands Barry M and LCN among others. A hand massage was also available for those wanting to test the hand creams for sale in the skin care section. Khaled Nagmush, salesperson for Sola cosmetics, hopes to see success in 2013.
Eva Line is a relatively new wedding dress company, with China, America, Lebanon and the UK being some of the countries from where dresses are imported. The owner of Eva Line told the Libya Herald: “Each month there are more and more orders, which is promising.”
Bennouna, a Moroccan dress company with over 20 years experience, is hoping to open an outlet in Libya as they notice a high demand in the fashion market.
Amina Haitami, owner of Bennouna said that “as well as fashion, the quality of the dresses is important to us. They must last twenty years without the colour changing”.
“In Morocco, women don’t wear robes, so the dresses have to be designed with modesty in mind. We want Libyan women to have the option to wear Moroccan dresses that are respectable, but each having its own unique vibrant colour. Also, the dresses are light and very comfortable”, she added.
Haitami felt that this was going to be a very successful exhibition, attracting hundreds of women. “This is only the first day of this exhibition, but we can already see enthusiastic visitors interested in many items” she said.
Dar Farhati, a wedding hall, says is offering 30-percent discount for those who book at the exhibition.
