A man has been arrested in Egypt in connection with the murder of a Libyan chef working in Alexandria.
Abdel-Monsef Farouk Abdul-Hamid, aged 27, was fatally stabbed multiple times with a pocketknife, after an argument outside a nightclub in the Bahri district escalated into violence.
In the nightclub, Abdul-Hamid apparently spoke to a girl who had arrived with another man. When Abdul-Hamid later left the club with the girl, he was followed. A verbal argument broke out between the two men, a knife was pulled and the victim was stabbed to death.
The suspect, a 33 year-old, has been detained by the chief prosecutor for four days, pending further investigations.
Abdul-Hamid’s body and belongings will be handed over to the Libyan Embassy in Cairo before being returned to his family.
