The
former Libyan dictator's widow, Safiya and three of his children,
Ayesha, Mohammed and Hannibal, have left Algeria where they had been
given a safe haven, Algeria's ambassador to Libya has been reported
saying.
Abdel-Hamid Bouzaher said the family had left "a long time ago" without giving further details. Ayesha and Hannibal are wanted by Interpol following a request from the Libyan authorities.
Earlier this week, one of Col Gaddafi's cousins, Ahmed Gaddaf al-Dam, was arrested in Egypt.
Gaddafi's widow and three children sought refuge in Algeria in 2011 soon after the rebels reached the Libyan capital Tripoli during the 2011 uprising that eventually ended his 42-year rule. Their current whereabouts are not known.
It has been since November last year that according to unnamed sources, reports of the departure of the Gaddafi family from Algeria first surfaced in Arab media, but this is the first official confirmation by Algerian authorities.
Another of Gaddafi's sons, Saadi fled to Niger after the war and he has been there ever since, while
Seif al-Islam, was captured in Libya, where he remains in detention. He is also wanted by the International Criminal Court, ICC to put him on trial in The Hague for alleged crimes against humanity.
