DOHA, QATAR-Mohamed Abdelaziz, Libya’s foreign minister, told
reporters in Qatar that the widow of the late ruler Muammar Gaddafi,
Safiya, and other family members have been granted asylum in Oman. The
family members moved from Algeria after reciving an asylum offer by
Oman which is believed to include three of Gaddafi’s children and
grandchildren.
The foreign minster who was in Qatar for the upcoming Arab League summit disclosed that it was too soon to discuss whether Libya would seek their extradition and defended Oman’s right to host the family members.
Saif al-Islam, one of Gaddafi’s sons was captured by the revolutionaries in Libya and awaits trial.
Omani officials have yet to make an official statement on the subject.
