Tripoli, 11 March 2013:
The Joint Security Force in Tripoli is preparing to conduct extensive combing operations at a number of farms on the outskirts of the city in a move to crack down on crime.
Farm buildings, particularly to the west of Tripoli, are known to be used by gangs as headquarters, hideouts and places to store stolen goods and, in cases of kidnapping, their victims, according to the Libyan news agency LANA.
The farms will be returned to their owners once the mission is over, Ministry of Interior spokesman Magdi Al-Arafi was quoted by the agency as saying yesterday, Sunday.
Last week, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan announced that a special force would be formed to storm the headquarters of all illegal armed groups in Tripoli and elsewhere.
Tripoli revolutionaries, howevert, have said thelibyay reject any security plans in the city if they are not part of them, the official spokesman of Tripoli’s Union of Revolutionaries, Hud Ali Qasim said yesterday.
Speaking to LANA, he warned that the non-involvement of the revolutionaries and of the Tripoli’s Security Operations Room in in any security action would be considered as deliberately disregarding the capital’s revolutionaries who lost hundreds of martyrs during the liberation of Libya.
