The kidnapped head of CID in Libya, Captain Abdusalam Al-Mahdawi
The Libyan authorities are intensifying their search for an officer who was kidnapped in Benghazi, and are leaving no stone unturned to find him. There are strong worries that Captain Abdusalam Al-Mahdawi, the head of the Criminal Investigation Department in the city of Benghazi, might have been killed as there has been no news or signs of him so far after his kidnap. Sources told The Tripoli Post that the nature of the operation compels authorities not talk publicly on the matter but hard work is going on to find out about his fate. However, the whereabouts of the man remain unknown. Al-Mahdawi was kidnapped at gunpoint on his way to work late on Wednesday night. Following the abduction, Libyan Interior Minister Ashour Shwayel issued a statement vowing to find “the officer and determine the identity of the perpetrators.” Benghazi has witnessed a wave of killings of security officers and explosions targeting security buildings in the recent weeks. |
