A new British Ambassador to Libya has appointed due to health issues of predecessor, Sir Dominic Asquith.
Michael Aron was the former British ambassador to Kuwait and then Iraq. A fluent speaker in Arabic, Aron joined the Foreign and Commonwealth office in 1984 after finishing his studies in Arabic & French at Russell Group member, the University of Leeds.
Aron said of his appointment: “ I am delighted to be staying in Libya after three months as acting Head of Mission. Libya is at a critical period in its history and, following on from the important contribution the United Kingdom made to the Libyan Revolution, we are determined to play a major role in support of a successful transition to a democratic state governed according to the rule of law, in line with the wishes of the Libyan people.”
